Beavers hit the road for pivotal NSIC matchups

Bemidji State heads to Augustana and Wayne State with postseason positioning on the line

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Women's Basketball travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. and Wayne, Neb. this weekend for a divisive pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. Tipoff at Augustana University is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday and Wayne State College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Bemidji State Notes
  • Bemidji State enters the weekend at 8-10 overall and 5-9 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Finishing last week on a high note, the Beavers took down one of the top ranked teams in the conference, Winona State University, by a score of 72-65, breaking a three-game losing streak.
  • With the end of the regular season just eight games away, the Beavers are looking to grab a spot in the NSIC tournament. After last weekend's win, the Beavers are in 11th. The top 12 teams earn a place in the post season. These last few weekends will have a large say in the Beavers' chances as Wayne State and Augustana are both 4-10 in conference play. Along with WSC and AU, BSU still has the University of Minnesota Crookston on the docket who is also 4-10. St. Cloud State University currently holds 12th with the same conference record as BSU, but two less non-conference wins.
  • Kassandra Caron remains the top points earner for BSU with 308 total points this season, averaging 17.1 per game. Close behind Caron is Evyn Eppinga with 14.9 per game. Under the rim, Aubrey Heyer leads the team with 6.1 boards per game, averaging 1.7 on offense each contest.
  • Next week, BSU heads to Minot State University and the University of Mary.

Augustana Notes
  • The Vikings are 7-13 overall with a 4-10 conference lineup. Ranking last in the South Division, AU holds 14th in the overall conference rankings, one win behind BSU. They will be looking to push into playoff contention this weekend.
  • Isabella Sanneh leads AU with 14.1 points per game, the only member of the Vikings' squad with more than nine points per game. She is shooting at .480 percent from the field and .622 from the free-throw line, leading the team on both fronts.

Wayne State Notes
  • Wayne State is one spot ahead of Augustana, just one position out of playoff contention with the same conference record. The Wildcats hold a 9-11 overall record and will host University of Minnesota Duluth Friday before the Beavers come to town.
  • Kylah vanDonkersgoed remains at the top of WSC's scoring lineup, keeping her spot from last season. She leads the team from the field with a shooting percentage of .431 making 100 shots this season. Kelsey Willems leads from the arc with a .297 shooting percentage on 91 attempts.
