Beavers host Mustangs and Cougars for Friday/Saturday slate

BSU finishes five-game homestand with SMSU and USF this weekend

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Women's Basketball prepares to host Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls at the BSU Gymnasium this weekend. BSU hosts SMSU Friday at 7:30 p.m. followed by USF Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • The Beavers enter the weekend at 6-6 overall with a 3-5 record in the NSIC. The team has struggled to get back into the win column in recent contests, dropping the last four games. Most recently, the Beavers fell to University of Minnesota Duluth, 78-50. Following this weekend, BSU heads on the road for the first time in over a month, traveling to St. Cloud State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato.
  • Senior forward Kassandra Caron leads the Beavers in scoring with 18.8 points per game, totaling 226 this season. She is shooting at .503 from the field and .750 from the free throw line. Caron leads the team with 10 blocks, averaging 0.8 per game, and in steals with 1.5 per game. She is ranked in the top 30 in the NCAA for free-throw attempts, free throws and points per game.
  • Tieryn Plasch leads the team from beyond the arc, shooting at .308 percent with 20 makes. Plasch is averaging 1.7 makes per game with 5.4 attempts. 
  • Under the rim, Aubrey Heyer leads the team with 81 total rebounds, averaging 6.8 per game with an average of 2.0 on offense and 4.8 on defense. 
 
Southwest Minnesota State Notes
  • The Mustangs sit at 7-6 overall and rank fourth in the NSIC's South Division with a conference record of 5-3. SMSU is on a two-game win streak after taking down St. Cloud State and Sioux Falls in their previous two matchups.
  • Nicole Maenke leads the team with an average of 16.2 points per game, followed closely by Audrey Swanson at 15.9. Swanson leads from the field at .407 percent while Maenke is at .371 from beyond the arc. Swanson also leads in rebounds per game with 7.6, totaling 99 rebounds.
 
Sioux Falls Notes
  • The Cougars hold an overall record of 8-6 with 5-3 in the NSIC, taking third in the South Division, just ahead of SMSU. They've hit a rut in recent contests, dropping their last three against MSU, SMSU and NSU. They'll head to UMD Friday ahead of Saturday's matchup in Bemidji.
  • Anna Vaaler leads the Cougars in points at 21.0 per game, field-goal shooting at .462 percent, three-point shooting at .407 percent, free-throw shooting at .886 percent and rebounding with 7.6 per game. Ayla Brown leads with 5.6 assists per game.
