Beavers head on the road to UJ with final weeks of the season dwindling down

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Football heads back on the road this weekend after spending the last week on a bye. The Beavers are set to take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies at 1 p.m. from Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium in Jamestown, N.D.

BSU NOTES
  • For the second year in a row, the Beavers entered the week seven bye with a 2-5 overall record, going 2-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. This season, the Beavers entered last week on a two-loss streak after falling on the road to then RV/25 Northern State University, 16-9, and at home to RV Wayne State College, 45-13. BSU's most recent win came one month ago as the Beavers hosted Minot State University for Homecoming on Sep. 26, taking the game 37-19.
  • The Beavers are currently fourth in the NSIC North Division, posting a 1-1 record against divisional opponents. The remaining four games this season will all play into BSU's final North Division ranking. BSU is tenth overall in this year's conference lineup.
  • BSU averages 24.29 points per game this season, with an average of 2.14 touchdowns on the ground and 1.14 through the air per game. Connor Carver leads these efforts with 54 points scored this season, claiming almost a third of BSU's points.
  • Bart McAninch and Mack Molander lead the Beavers' passing efforts with four touchdowns each. McAninch has posted 831 yards with a 51.46 completion percentage. Molander has 361 yards, with one start, and a 54.39 completion percentage. On the receiving end, Zavery Guerra and Lucas Peterson have caught two touchdown passes each with Guerra posting 372 yards and Peterson with 264.
  • Defensively, Caden Bolte leads the team in tackles with 47 total, marking 33 solo and 14 assisted. Behind the line of scrimmage, Joey Funderburk leads with 6.0 tackles for a loss of 26 total yards and three sacks for 20 yards.
  • Next week, the Beavers return home to host Minnesota State University Moorhead at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 for a Halloween themed game. Fans are encouraged to decorate their tailgate areas with Halloween decor for the chance to win a 43" TV thanks to Midco. The following week, the Beavers will help to "tackle cancer" with a pink out game, presented by Sanford Health.

UJ NOTES
  • The Jimmies hold last place in both the NSIC and North Divisions, posting a winless, 7-0 overall record this season. Prior to the week-seven bye, the Jimmies fell to Minot State University on their homecoming, 28-20. UJ's last win came over Concordia University, St. Paul, on the road, on September 27, 2025. The Jimmies came away with a 33-22 victory over the Golden Bears that day.
  • The UJ schedule doesn't lighten up as the season comes to a close; the Jimmie head on the road to the University of Minnesota Duluth before hosting MSU Moorhead and finishing the season at Northern State University.
  • Where the Jimmies have found success this season is in their red-zone defense. UJ ranks 35th in the NCAA and third in the NSIC for red-zone defense, allowing opponents to score on just 73 percent of attempts. Of this 73 percent, Jimmie opponents have scored touchdowns on just 14 attempts, out of 22, for a 64 percent mark.
  • The UJ offense is led by junior quarterback Jacob Mattick who has gone 68-135-5 with a 50.37 completion rate, 586 yards and one touchdown. His leading receiver is fifth-year Gage Solano with 230 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Jimmie efforts are led by Mason Whitley and Andres Bonilla with a combined 549 yards and three touchdowns.
  • The Jimmies spread the effort out on defense with 11 athletes marking 24 or more tackles this season. Linebacker Jack Young leads the team in the backfield with 5.5 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks for 14 yds.
