Beavers take on (RV) Wolves and Jimmies on the road

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Volleyball heads on the road for the final time during the regular season this weekend. The Beavers will take on the (RV) Northern State University Wolves Friday at 6 p.m. followed by the University of Jamestown Jimmies at 2 p.m. Saturday.

After a reverse sweep over University of Minnesota Crookston on Tuesday, the Beavers enter the weekend at 16-8 overall and 8-8 in the conference. Right now, the Beavers are just one spot outside of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference playoff contention, tying with Minnesota State University, Mankato in ninth place. The Beavers will enter this weekend with hopes of winning out to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.

Ava Athman launched to the top scoring spot for the Beavers early on and has stayed there ever since. She has amassed 369.0 points this season, averaging 4.29 per set. Athman leads in kills with 313 and is one ace behind the top spot from the service line. Holding that top spot, Madison Tripp leads in aces with 30 and leads the set assist efforts with 919 this season. From the back row, Ava Boelter leads in digs with 374 as the team's starting libero. At the net, it's Isabella Vander Velden who leads, grabbing 68.0 blocks.

The Northern State Wolves rank fifth in the NSIC with a 12-4 conference record and 17-7 overall. Earlier this week, the Wolves swept Minot State University while on the road, sweeping the MSU Beavers this season. NSU is currently on a two-match win streak after also taking down Winona State University, 3-1, last weekend. Following Friday's match against the Beavers, NSU hosts No. 19 University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon.

The Jimmies are tied for seventh in the NISC with a 16-8 overall record and 9-7 lineup in the conference. On Tuesday, UJ swept the University of Mary, winning by over 10 points in each of the three sets. They have gone 2-3 over the past five matches, also taking down Winona State in four sets last weekend. The Jimmies host the UMD Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Friday before closing the regular season against UMC and Minnesota State University Moorhead next week.
