Beavers fall in series finale against Huskies

BSU Women’s Hockey shutout by (RV) St. Cloud State 5-0 Saturday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team fell to St. Cloud State University, 5-0, in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series finale Saturday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Bemidji State was unable to capitalize on its four power-play opportunities, while SCSU took control with two goals in both the first and second periods.

Sophomore Kaitlin Groess made 29 saves in goal, managing to stop several key attempts despite allowing five goals.

SCSU took an early lead midway through the first period when Myah Krueger scored at 11:45, assisted by Payton Remick and Reese Strauts. Just 43 seconds later, Maria Mikaelyan doubled the advantage with a goal assisted by Avery Farrell, bringing the score to 2–0. Bemidji State's Groess made several key saves throughout the period to prevent further scoring.

The Huskies extended their lead in the second period, capitalizing on offensive opportunities. Julianne Labbé scored at 10:01, assisted by Alice Sauriol and Sydney Bryant, to make it 3–0. Shortly after, Grace Wolfe increased the margin to 4–0 at 10:56 with a power-play goal, assisted by Sydney Lamb and Sauriol. Bemidji State had multiple power-play chances and attempted several shots, but Jojo Chobak's saves maintained the Huskies' shutout going into the intermission.

In the third period, SCSU extended its lead with a goal by Lamb at 13:39, assisted by Sauriol. Bemidji State's Smith had two early shots saved by Chobak, but the visiting team struggled to find the back of the net throughout the period. Despite Bemidji State's efforts, including a penalty kill during Smith's tripping infraction, the Huskies maintained control, ultimately securing a 5-0 victory. The period concluded with Bemidji State's Olivia Dronen taking a shot wide as time expired.
