Beavers split weekend against Minnesota Crookston and MSU Moorhead

BSU Women’s Tennis falls to Golden Eagles, 6-1, then defeats Dragons, 4-3

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team had a mixed weekend at the Gillett Wellness Center, falling to the University of Minnesota Crookston 6-1 on Friday before edging past Minnesota State University Moorhead with a 4-3 victory on Saturday.
 
In the match against Minnesota Crookston, the Beavers secured a singles victory at the No. 2 position and claimed a doubles win on court 2. However, the Golden Eagles captured the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3 and secured the match with five singles victories. Paula Garcia Acebal posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and added a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles alongside Lauren Rutten. Despite her success in doubles, Rutten fell short at No. 5 singles with a 3-6, 4-6 result, while Ana Lucia Ibanez recorded a loss at No. 6 singles with a 2-6, 5-7 score.
 
The doubles matches saw Garcia Acebal and Rutten secure a decisive 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. However, Ibanez and Valesca Rodriguez lost 3-6 at No. 3 doubles, and the No. 1 doubles featuring Marla Davies and Mia Leshem ended 2-6. In singles play, Leshem was defeated 0-6, 4-6 at No. 1 singles, while Davies faced a challenging match, ending with a 0-6, 3-6 loss at No. 3 singles. Rodriguez concluded her match at No. 4 singles with a 1-6, 0-6 result, and Ibanez finished 4-6, 6-7 at No. 6 singles.

The Beavers rebounded on Saturday against MSU Moorhead, clinching the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ana Lucia Ibanez posted a victory at No. 6 singles while also contributing a win in No. 3 doubles. Valesca Rodriguez recorded a win at No. 4 singles and added another win in No. 3 doubles. Marla Davies claimed victory at No. 3 singles despite losing in No. 1 doubles, and Paula Garcia Acebal secured a win in No. 2 doubles.
 
In doubles, Garcia Acebal and Lauren Rutten secured a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Rodriguez and Ibanez dominated at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win. The No. 1 doubles match concluded with a 1-6 score in favor of the Dragons. In singles action, Leshem faced a seesaw battle at No. 1 singles, ultimately falling 5-7, 6-2, 2-6. Garcia Acebal fought hard at No. 2 singles but was edged out in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 5-7. Davies secured a strong 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Rodriguez added another point for Bemidji State at No. 4 singles, overcoming her opponent 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Rutten battled through three sets at No. 5 singles but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-3, 4-10. Ibanez completed the singles matches with a straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles, posting a 6-2, 6-4 result.
