Softball’s season ends in St. Cloud Sunday

Beavers fall in six during doubleheader at the Husky Dome

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Bemidji State University Softball fell to St. Cloud State University in both games of a doubleheader on Sunday, losing both in six innings by scores of 9-1 at Husky Stadium. The Beavers' lone run in each game came in the sixth inning, while the Huskies accumulated a total of 14 hits in the first game and seven runs in the sixth inning of the second game to secure their victories.
 
In the first game, St. Cloud State opened the scoring in the third inning when Weiss homered to center field, bringing in two runs and putting the Huskies ahead 2-0. The fourth inning saw St. Cloud State extend its lead significantly, as a three-run homer by Roe led to four additional runs, concluding the inning with a score of 6-0. Bemidji State managed to respond in the sixth inning when Calleigh Richards walked and later scored on a double by Brianna Ness. However, St. Cloud State answered back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by Harms' two-RBI triple, sealing the final score at 9-1.
 
In the second game, the Beavers fell behind early as the game remained scoreless through the first three innings, with Bemidji State managing only two hits during this span. The Huskies took the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer by Weiss, B., bringing the score to 2-0. The Beavers scored their only run in the sixth when Jackie Larsen singled, advanced to third, and stole home on a play that included a bunt single by Aubrey Aukerman. This run came amidst a seven-run half-inning by St. Cloud State that included a combination of hits, walks, and errors.
 
On the mound in the first game, Sydney Klusman pitched 3 2/3 innings for Bemidji State, allowing nine hits and six earned runs with a total of 80 pitches, of which 48 were strikes. Keira Lucero came in as relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and three earned runs. Tibby Hessian faced one batter, delivering four pitches with two strikes without allowing a run. In the second game, Brianna Ness pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs on 102 pitches with 62 strikes, but did not record any strikeouts. Danica Sarff took over in relief, struggling with control as she issued three walks without allowing a hit or an earned run, while Sydney Klusman contributed 10 pitches with six strikes.
 
Offensively, Brianna Ness was a highlight for Bemidji State in the first game with a double and one run batted in. Morgan Benedict reached base twice, while Calleigh Richards scored a run and drew a walk. In the second game, Jackie Larsen contributed two hits and scored a run, and Alayna DeGraef also tallied two hits. Aubrey Aukerman recorded one hit and successfully stole a base.
 
Bemidji State concludes the season with an overall record of 10-43, while St. Cloud State improves to 43-12 and will take part in the NSIC tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. this week.
