BISMARCK, N.D. — Bemidji State University Volleyball defeated the University of Mary 3-0 on Saturday, winning 25-16, 25-14, 25-15. The team achieved a season-high hitting percentage of .433 in the game. BSU is one of just 10 undefeated teams in the NCAA and only remaining undefeated team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Bemidji State finished with a large attacking advantage, hitting .433 with 51 kills and nine attack errors while Mary hit .102 with 25 kills and 16 errors.
Ava Athman and
Nevaeh Carlson each recorded 16 kills, with Athman achieving a season-high.
Madison Tripp had 42 assists as Bemidji State totaled 48 assists. BSU also led in digs, 39-31, and total blocks, 8-2, with an 8-0 run in the second set adding one sustained scoring stretch.
The Beavers stayed in front throughout the opening set and closed it with four straight points, finishing a 25-16 win on a
Grace Hoffard kill. Earlier, Carlson put down two kills and
Anna Paquette served an ace during a stretch that moved Bemidji State ahead 9-4. Athman added key kills later as BSU kept Mary from cutting into the margin.
An eight-point run broke open the second set for Bemidji State, moving it from an 11-7 lead to 19-7 with Tripp serving for the final seven points of the stretch. Athman and Carlson put down kills during the run, Tripp added a service ace, and Carlson closed the stretch with a block. Hoffard delivered two late kills as the Beavers finished the set 25-14.
After the Marauders' opening point in the third set, the Beavers answered with a Tripp kill, an
Isabella Vander Velden/Athman block and a Vander Velden kill while moving ahead 4-1. Vander Velden recorded a career-high total of seven blocks. Carlson later delivered three kills in a four-point run from 18-12 to 22-12, then closed the set with another kill as Bemidji St. finished off a 25-15 set win. Carlson reached the milestone of 100 career kills, totaling 101.
Athman finished with 16 kills while hitting .560, adding five blocks, one ace and a team-high 19.5 points. Carlson also recorded 16 kills and totaled 17.5 points with two blocks. Tripp posted 42 assists, eight digs, three kills and one ace. Vander Velden collected a team-high seven blocks and added two kills.
Bemidji State is 10-0 overall and 2-0 in NSIC play. Mary is 2-8 overall and 0-2 in NSIC play. Up next, the Beavers host University of Jamestown on Friday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji, Minn.
