BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Volleyball lost to Northern State University 3-0 on Saturday in Bemidji.
Bemidji State recorded 48 digs to Northern State's 50, and both teams finished with five total blocks, but NSU held advantages in hitting percentage (.336 to .229), kills (48 to 41) and service aces (six to two).
Nevaeh Carlson recorded 15 kills on a .406 hitting percentage for BSU, with
Madison Tripp finishing with 30 assists.
In the first set, the Beavers made their main push late, using an
Ava Athman kill and service ace, along with a Wolf attack error, to pull even at 23-23 after trailing 23-20. Northern State answered with the final two points on Bemidji State errors, taking the set 25-23.
After an early 7-3 deficit, BSU cut it to 7-6 behind two
Ella Kratochvil kills and an Athman service ace, but NSU kept the Beavers from sustaining the response. Carlson and Kratochvil each finished with four kills in the set, while Tripp assisted on most of BSU's attacking points. NSU closed out the set 25-14.
In the third set, the Beavers fought back from a 23-18 deficit, using a Carlson kill, two blocks and the Wolves' attack error to tie it at 23. Carlson answered again with a kill to make it 24-24 after Northern State reached set point. NSU scored the final two points to take the set, 26-24.
Carlson led Bemidji State with 15 kills and 16.5 points while hitting .406 and adding two blocks. Tripp finished with 30 assists and seven digs. Athman recorded 10 kills, two service aces and 12.5 points, while
Ava Boelter collected a team-high 13 digs and added two assists.
Bemidji State is 10-2 overall and 2-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Northern State is 8-4 overall and 3-1 in NSIC play. Up next, Bemidji State hosts No. 23 University of Minnesota Duluth on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in Bemidji.
