Beavers extend shutout streak to four with 2-0 win over Augustana

BSU Women’s Soccer defeats Augustana 2-0 Sunday afternoon

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team defeated Augustana University 2-0 Sunday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, moving to 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. Bemidji State kept the Vikings scoreless despite a 20-11 shot margin, to extend its consecutive shutout streak to four matches.
 
The Beavers created the first chances of the half, earning a corner at 1:44 before Dayna Stocke and Molly Burkstrand put shots on frame that Linnea Larson saved. The Vikings followed with the longer attacking stretch, putting together eight attacking actions from 10:28 to 21:14, including a Payton Kropp save on Grace Katter's shot at 20:48 as the match stayed 0-0. Bemidji State pushed back midway through the half with shots from Meredith Paar, Madeline Davey and Stocke, along with consecutive corners at 26:20 and 26:59. The closing stretch turned stop-start with multiple fouls, but Olivia Seurer forced another Larson save at 41:05 before the half ended without a goal.
 
Sydney Sutherland broke the scoreless match at 51:15, giving Bemidji St. a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Bemidji State added to it after Paar put a shot on frame and the home side earned a corner, with Grace Schwoch scoring at 62:54 off an assist from Ella Wade for a 2-0 advantage. The Vikings generated sustained pressure from there, but Kropp saved shots at 68:45, 72:13, 77:27, 84:32 and 86:28 as Bemidji St. held the lead through the final whistle for a 2-0 win.
 
Sutherland scored the unassisted game-winning goal, her first of the season and put one of her two shots on frame. Kropp recorded six saves over 90 minutes and finished with a shutout. Schwoch scored her first goal of the season and Ella Wade added an assist for her team-leading third.
 
Up next, the Beavers travel to Minot, N.D., to face Minot State University Friday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m.
