BEMIDJI, Minn. – In recognition of their steadfast dedication to Beaver Football, Bemidji State University alumni Trent and Beth (Buckingham) Baalke have been named honorary captains for the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Sept. 26.  
 
The announcement follows a recent transformational scholarship pledge of $1 million from the Baalkes, which brings BSU's football program to full funding. By enabling Beaver Football to offer the maximum number of scholarships allowed by the NCAA, their gift opens unprecedented doors for current and future student-athletes.
 
"Beth and I chose to invest in BSU football scholarships because we believe deeply in the program, the individuals leading it, and the power of opportunity," Trent said. "We're investing in the future of BSU football and the young men in the program because we wouldn't have had the success we've had without the foundation laid during our time as BSU student-athletes."  
 
The Baalkes' generous commitment to funding scholarships will provide players with the vital support they need to thrive at Bemidji State, both on and off the field.
 
"The Baalkes' gift is transformational, and it's also indicative of the true experience of coming to Bemidji State University," director of athletics Britt Lauritsen said. "BSU Athletics focuses on character, competition, and classroom success — all of which were impactful for Trent and Beth when they were on campus. That impact is now enriching the lives of current and future Beavers through scholarships made possible by their vision, trust, and commitment to our values."
 
Trent and Beth will take the field to be recognized as honorary captains ahead of the coin toss at Saturday's 2 p.m. game at Chet Anderson Stadium.
