Damon Benham enters his first season as the assistant coach responsible for conerbacks for the Bemidji State football program in 2017.

In 2017, Benham assisted the Beavers to an 8-3 record. Working with the conerbacks throughout the year led to Gunner Olszewski being named to the All-Conference Defensive First Team and brother EJ Olszewski getting named to the Second Team Special Teams. The "Gang Green" secondary ranked third in the NSIC with 20 interceptions, led by EJ Olszewski with five.

Benham joins the coaching staff after being a captian of the 2016 Bemidji State football team. His senior season he led Bemidji State's "Gang Green" defence, as well as the NSIC, with six interceptions and nine pass breakups. He led the BSU secondary with 15 passes defended and was forth on the squad in tackles. Benham was named to the 2016 Don Hansen All-American Third Team Defense and the CAA All-Super Region Three First Team Defense his senior year. Over the course of his career, Benham was named to the North Division All-Conference Second team defence and was the NSIC player of the Week. He is tied for fourth in BSU history with 11 total interceptions. 

Benham graduated from Bemidji State University in 2016.
