Waylon Roberson

Waylon Roberson joins the Bemidji State coaching staff in March of 2021 as the interior defensive line coach.

The 2021 Beaver squad finished 10-3 overall, securing the first 10-win season and NCAA Postseason Tournament victory in program history, thanks in part to one of the top defensive lines in the NSIC. The Beavers ranked 31st nationally and third in the conference in sacks and 40th nationally and first in the NSIC in tackles for a loss.

Roberson joins the Beavers after serving as a youth combine assistant since 2019 and a playing career as a defensive tackle at Arkansas State University from 2015-17 and New Mexico Military Institute from 2013-14.

Most recently, Roberson taught lifting techniques to youth participants at the Ralvis Training Facility. He helped teach a variety of skills to developing defensive linemen.

As a member of the Arkansas State football program, Roberson was a two-year starter who totaled 86 tackles, 9.0 tackles for a loss, 3.0 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass break up and one blocked kick in 15 games played for the Red Wolves. He earned Lindy's and Phil Steele's Second Team Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference and Athlon Sports Preseason Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors prior to his senior season. Roberson was also a member of the Athletic Director's List, awarded to student-athletes who excelled in the classroom and on the field.

During his career with the New Mexico Military Institute football team, Roberson was an All-Western States Football League Second Team selection as a defensive tackle and named team MVP as a sophomore. Through 20 games played, he totaled 62 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, one blocked kick and one pass breakup.

Roberson earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in business, marketing and communications in 2017 from Arkansas State.
