Tristan Thompson enters his first season on the Bemidji State Men's Basketball coaching staff in 20225-26.
Prior to coaching for the Beavers, Thompson spent two years coaching for North Central University as a graduate assistant.Â
During his first season at North Central, Thompson helped lead the Rams to a 9-5 conference record, UMAC playoff berth, and NCCAA D2 national runner-up finish. During his second season at North Central, Thompson helped the Rams to a 10-4 conference record, finishing regular season co-champions, and a UMAC playoff berth. The Rams also went on to win the NCCAA D2 National Championship.Â
Prior to coaching for the Rams, Thompson spent one year coaching for the Presentation College Saints in Aberdeen, SD. His roles included managing the varsity reserve team, assisting the varsity team, and recruitment. Thompson joined the Saints following the completion of his bachelor’s degree in sports management and coaching from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, MN. Thompson was a four-year varsity men’s track & field athlete, ran a single season of varsity cross country, and spent time with the men’s basketball team during his tenure at UNW.

Thompson is a native of Spicer, MN, and graduated from New London-Spicer High School where he was a three-sport athlete in cross country, basketball, and track & field. Thompson comes from a family of athletes; both his father and a younger brother competed in college track & field, and his youngest brother is basketball player at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls.
