Emma (Terres) Sobieck was re-hired as an assistant coach for the Bemidji State Women's Hockey program prior to the 2024-25 season. She had previously served as assistant coach for the Beavers from 2020-23. During the 2023-24 women's hockey season, Sobieck served as an assistant coach under head coach Maura Crowell at University of Minnesota Duluth. 2024-25 will mark the fourth season Sobieck has served on the BSU Women's Hockey coaching staff.

A 2018 graduate from Bemidji State, Sobieck was a member of the Beaver Women's Hockey program as a student-athlete from 2014-18 and served as team captain for the 2017-18 season. The New Hope, Minn., native played in 146 games for the Beavers in which she skated in 145 consecutive games.  During her collegiate career she accumulated 48 points including 21 goals. She established career-high 22 points on a team-best 11 goals and 11 assists during her senior season.

Following her collegiate career, she pursued hockey professionally in Germany as a part of the country’s top women’s hockey league the Deutsche Fraueneishockey-Liga or DFEL. She first played for ERC Ingolstadt in 2018-19 and was team captain for the Eisbären Juniors Berlin in 2019-20. During her two seasons and 51 games in the DFEL, Sobieck piled up 47 goals and 29 assists for 76 points and led Ingolstadt to the playoffs in 2019. Even while playing oversees, Sobieck found a way to teach beyond the boundaries of her captain role serving as a floorball coach for refugee middle and high school students.

Since she graduated from Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School, Sobieck has asserted herself into the world of coaching. First, it was a summer training coach at Armstrong Cooper High School in 2014 and 2015, then as a part of the Little Lady Lumberjacks program in Bemidji, introducing skating and the game of hockey to area girls. She then moved into the role of camp counselor and coach at Breezy point Hockey Camps, where she focused on positional skill development, dry-land training and teaching the game of hockey to campers from 2015-18.  In 2018, she also served as a coach as the Blizzard Hockey Academy where she was responsible for developing the off-ice training curriculum. Most recently, she began a three-year run (2017-19) as a coach and evaluator for the USA Hockey Development Camp in St. Cloud, Minn. There she worked with Minnesota’s top 14- and 15-year-old prospects for the USA Hockey National Team.

Sobieck completed her minor in human performance and earned a coaching certificate from BSU in 2018 and completed her Bachelor of Science in individualized studies at BSU in 2020.
