BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State University displayed one of its best performances in school history this afternoon in a 1-0 loss to North Dakota. The Beavers stifled an offense that came into the game having outscored their opponents 23-3.

The match was scoreless until the 44th minute when Stephanie Pfeiffer beat Kari Torgerson on a controversial penalty kick to put the Sioux ahead 1-0 just before half-time.

Head coach Jim Stone questioned the penalty called by the officials.

“I thought the penalty kick was a very questionable call,” Stone said.

The Beavers did not let the goal by North Dakota effect their play in the second half, however, as the BSU defense prevented any further scoring. Kari Torgerson played well in the net with 14 saves on the day.

BSU had several scoring chances late in the second half, including a corner kick in the 77th minute.

Despite the loss Stone was happy with his team’s performance.

“We played one of the better played games in BSU history against the number 25 team in the country,” Stone said, “We need to carry our performance today into the conference season when we are not up against this much talent.”

The Beavers take their 1-6-1 record into Saturday’s NSIC conference-opener on the road against Minnesota-Duluth at 1:00 p.m..
