BSU Shut Out by Northern State in NSIC Consolation Game

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University soccer team wrapped up its 2004 season with a 2-0 loss to Northern State University in the consolation game of the 2004 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

The Wolves took the first lead of the game when Melissa Gamble took a pass from Lissa Heaviland and put if past the Beavers’ Kari Torgerson (New Hope, Minn.) in the 31st minute.

NSU would extend its lead to two goals in the 51st minute. Suanne Lampert, the 2004 NSIC Co-Player of the Year, tallied her ninth goal of the season on a pass from Jill Layden.

The Wolves outshot the Beavers 21-5 in the game recording 13 shots on goal to BSU’s 2.
Torgerson had another solid performance in net making 11 saves while allowing two goals.

The Beavers closed the book on their most successful season in the history of the program with an overall record of 11-12 and 3-4 in NSIC play. The team completes the 2004 season with more wins that any other season and made the NSIC Tournament for the first time in its history, The 2004 Beavers scored more goals (53), made more assists (49), racked up more points (155) and took more shots (300) than any team ever to put on the green and white.

In addition, the Beavers surpassed a number of individual milestones. Sophomore Katie Meinhardt (Maple Grove, Minn,) set a new single-season record for goals scored with 14 while junior Lindsey Natwick (Bismarck, N.D.) climbed into the No. 1 spot with seven assists in 2004 raising her career total to a BSU-best 17.
