Bemidji State falls 10-0 to No. 1 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Ridder Arena) – The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team had a rough go of it Friday evening against the No. 1-ranked University of Minnesota, falling 10-0 at Ridder Arena. The Beavers (9-17-3, 6-15-2-1 WCHA) allowed two first-period goals, six in the second and two more in the third as and struggled to find any positive momentum.  The Gophers (27-1-1, 21-1-1-0 WCHA) outshot BSU 40-21 in the contest.

Kate Schipper and Kelly Terry both notched goals in the first period with assists going to Sarah Davis, Rachael Bona, Dani Cameranesi and Megan Wolfe.

Hannah Brandt and Davis would score two goals a piece in the second period, along with goals by Maryanne Menefee and Bona. Rachael Ramsey, Schipper, Menefee all chipped on assists on Minnesota’s six goals in the period.

Bona and Bethany Brausen would add a couple more goals for the Gophers in the third to round out the scoring with assists going to Davis, Milica McMillen and Terry.

BSU goaltender Brittni Mowat (Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba) fell to 9-14-3 after allowing five goals and saving 19 in 28:04 of work. She was relieved by Jessica Havel (R-Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), who saw her first action since Dec. 8 at No. 2 Wisconsin. Havel allowed five goals and recorded 11 saves.

Amanda Leveille picked up the win after making 21 saves. It was Leveille’s tenth shutout of the season.

Tess Dusik (F, Sr., Oak Bluff, Manitoba) led the Beavers with three shots on goal and Ivana Bilic (D, So., Coquitlam, British Columbia) had six of BSU’s 24 blocks. Minnesota blocked just 13 shots.

Bemidji State will be looking to get back on track in tomorrow’s series finale. Game time is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. from Ridder Arena.
