Beavers unsuccessful in the comeback at Mary and fall 3-1

BSU drops final road match of season

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell in the final road match of the season to University of Mary, 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 16-25, 25-20) in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, Saturday afternoon. Junior Hallie Mertz recorded 17 kills for the second-straight match for the Beavers (4-22, 3-15 NSIC), one away from her career high.
 
Behind Mertz, Lauren Sitter finished the match with 10 kills and rounding out the top three for scoring was Tiara Diamond with six. Madison Weyker was the only Beaver to score off the serve landing two aces. Emily Wade helped set up the attack for BSU assisting in 39 points, a season high.
 
As a team the Beavers hit .179 in the match with set four being the best performance at .250. Individually Mertz was able to capitalize on .238 percent of her attacks and Sitter found points on .226 percent. 
 
Mertz also led the defense with 19 digs in the four-set match. Weyker was the other Beaver able to record double-digit digs with 15 and Wade finished the afternoon with nine. At the net BSU was able to stop three of the Marauders' (6-20, 5-13 NSIC) attacks and Zayda Priebe and Wade were able to assist in two blocks while Rylie Pompa and Sitter assisted in one.
 
The Beavers wrap up their season with a pair of home matches next week. They begin play against Minnesota State University, Moorhead on Friday Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. The following day the Beavers end their season against Northern State University at 4 p.m.
