MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 2 University of Minnesota scored three-unanswered goals in the third period after the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team held them to just one goal through 20 minutes en route to a 4-1 victory for the Gophers. Senior
Kate Boland scored her first collegiate goal in the game.
Minnesota opened the game quickly in the first period when Lizi Norton scored 1:45 into the opening frame. Minnesota totaled 10 shots during the period but goaltender
Hannah Hogenson limited them to just the one goal.
Bemidji State wasted no time in the second period when Boland tallied her first collegiate goal just 1:34 into the second period to even the score. Hogenson was also dominant in the period and denied all 13 shots by the Gophers in the frame.
However, Minnesota broke through in the third and out-shot BSU 10-1 in the period and scored three times from Grace Zumwinkle, Catie Skaja and Emily Oden to earn the 4-1 victory.
Bemidji State finished with 16 shots in the game compared to 37 for the Gophers while Hogenson totaled 33 saves.
BSU earned three power plays in the game but came up empty on all three chances while its penalty kill denied the Gopher's lone chance of the game.
The Beavers return home to host defending National Champions Ohio State University next weekend for a two-game series at Sanford Center Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday.
