BEMIDJI, Minn. – Artem Shlaine from Northern Michigan University scored with just 1:46 left in the third period to break a scoreless tie between the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team and the Wildcats (8-5-0, 4-1-0 CCHA) Friday night in game one of their Central Collegiate Hockey Association series.

Northern Michigan later added an empty-net goal from Kristof Papp to claim the 2-0 victory and three points in CCHA play.

The Wildcats out-shot the Beavers (4-3-2, 2-1-2 CCHA) 35-25 in the game and allowed the second most shots on goal this season.

Sophomore
Mattias Sholl held the Wildcats scoreless through 58:14 minutes of play stopping all 33 shots up until Shlaine's game-winning goal. Sholl now falls to 2-2-2 this season.

Bemidji State earned four power plays in the game but came up empty on all four chances while its penally kill denied the Wildcats' lone opportunity in the game.

The Beavers will look to salvage a series split tomorrow evening when the two teams play the series finale at 5:07 p.m. CT.
