Bemidji State Men’s Basketball drops 115 points in home opener

Beavers defeat the Oak Hills Christian College 115-54

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Basketball team scored 115 points in its home opener against Oak Hills Christian College with a final score 115-54, Thursday night at the BSU Gymnasium. Junior John Sutherland recorded his third career double-double on the night with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
 
The 115 points is the most since BSU totaled a program record 127 points on Nov. 16, 2019.
 
It took just 30 seconds for Sutherland and the Beavers to score the first points of the game and after scoring, they never gave up the lead. Dalton Albrecht started the game hot going 5-for-9 from the field, 1-for-1 from three and 4-for-4 from the free throw line and finished the first half as BSU's leading scorer. In the second half the Beavers continued their dominant ways and went on a 17-point run. With the large lead 13 Beavers were able to see the court and everyone was able to land on the score sheet.
 
Sutherland with his 21 points led the team in scoring with Albrecht right behind him with 19. Three other student-athletes were able to break into the double-digits: Jalen Dearing (17), Brandon Christlieb (12) and Colton Roderick (10). BSU could not be stopped in the paint after scoring 58 points. The bench showed off in the game as well scoring more than half of the points on the night with 59.  
 
On defense, the Beavers were able to grab 59 rebounds with 18 being offensive. Sutherland led the team in rebounds as well finishing the night at 13. Albrecht was second coming away with eight, seven being on the offensive glass. 11 Beavers came away with a rebound on the night. Bemidji State also earned five blocked shots on the defensive side with Sutherland pacing the team with two.
 
The Beavers (3-1) continue their homestand tomorrow as they host the University of Minnesota, Morris at 6 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium.
