Beavers sweep home opening weekend with 99-83 win over Minnesota-Morris

BSU improves to 4-1 for best start since 2018-19

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Basketball team earned its fourth victory of the season with a 99-83 victory over University of Minnesota, Morris for the program's best start since the 2018-19 season. The Beavers (4-1) were led by their two big men in Dalton Albrecht and John Sutherland with the duo both totaling over 20 points.
 
In the first half the Beavers were able to convert more than half of their shots from everywhere on the court, going 22-for-33 (66.7%) from the field, 8-for-13 (61.5%) from three and 2-for-4 from the free throw line. In the first 20 minutes BSU was out-rebounded 15-19 by the Cougars (1-2). Bemidji State ended the half with a 12-point run, resulting in a 54-42 advantage going into halftime. In the second half BSU improved its play on the boards and grabbed 24 rebounds to finish the night with 39 compared to 31 for UMM. In the victory, the Beavers finished shooting 36-for-65 (55.4%) from the field their highest shooting percentage of the season and also went 12-for-26 from three and 15-for-18 from the charity stripe.
 
Sutherland paced the team with 26 points while Albrecht followed with 22. Rounding out the top three scorers was sophomore Brandon Christlieb with 15. Coming off the bench and breaking into the double figures was Jayce Lowman who added 12 points. Leading the team in assists was Brayden Williams with six and Sutherland one behind him with five.
 
Sutherland and Albrecht were the lead rebounders for the Beavers both recording seven with Sutherland grabbing all during the second half. Three other Beavers finished the night with five rebounds in Mohamed Kone, Tate Olson and Christlieb. Colton Roderick and Christlieb led the team in blocks each recording two.
 
The Beavers continue play at home Tuesday, Nov. 22 by hosting University of Minnesota, Crookston to begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers and Golden Eagles tip-off the conference season at 5:30 p.m., from BSU Gymnasium.
