BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team falls in the final game of the Lynda Goodrich Classic 50-68 to No. 13 Western Washington University, Saturday night at the WECU Court in Bellingham, Wash.
Sam Pogatchnik led the Beavers (3-2, 0-1 NSIC) in both scoring and rebounding with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Beavers were able to hang with the Vikings (2-1) for the majority of the first quarter. An Alyssa Hill layup gave the Beavers their last lead of the game with 3:14 left in the first quarter. To end the first ten minutes the Vikings went on a nine-point run. In the second and third quarter BSU and WWU traded points both finishing the 20 minutes with 33 points. In the final quarter Western Washing ran away with the game out scoring Bemidji State 15-5 to end the game 68-50.
Trinity Yoder and Hill rounded out the top three in points with Pogatchnik scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Hill along with
Maddie Schires were the most effective on the court shooting 50% and Schires went 2-for-3 from three.
Isabel Majewski set up the scoring opportunities leading the Beavers with six assists.
The Beavers were out rebounded by the Vikings 29-49 with Pogatchnik leading BSU with eight. Hill was second on the team with five. In the Beavers five offensive rebounds they were only able to convert with one basket while the Vikings were able to grab 18 of their missed shots and recorded 24 second chance points. Bemidji State was able to block six of Western Washington's shots all coming from different student-athletes.
The Beavers return to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Thursday as they travel to St. Cloud State University with a 5:30 p.m., tip-off. Then the Bemidji State return to the BSU Gymnasium Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. as they take on University of Minnesota, Duluth.
