ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to St. Cloud State University 68-42, Thursday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play in St. Cloud, Minn.
Maddie Schires led the Beavers with 18 points setting a new career high including 10 in the first half.
The Huskies (4-2, 1-1 NSIC) were unable to pull away from the Beavers (3-3, 0-2 NSIC) in the first half of the game amounting large leads before BSU would rally to tie the game. Near the end of the second quarter the Beavers tied the game at 22 before SCSU scored seven-unanswered points and went into the half up 31-26.
Maddie Schires was the leading scorer for the Beavers with 10 points. Jada Eggebrecht and Katrina Theis both finished the half with 13 points for the Huskies.
In the third quarter with less than five minutes left Bemidji State was able to cut the lead to two after a Schires three-pointer, but the Huskies were able to end the quarter up 10. The Huskies started the final quarter scoring 10 points before the Beavers converted a shot in the half, leading to the 68-42 victory.
Behind Schires was
Trinity Yoder and
Sam Pogatchnik both scoring seven points. Schires went 5-for-9 from behind the arc and 3-for-3 from the free throw line to total her 18 points. Yoder converted on one shot from the field but went 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Recording four of the Beaver's seven assists was Yoder. As a team BSU went 11-for-47 (23.4%) from the field, 7-for-17 (41.2%) from three and only missed one of its 14 free throws.
The Beavers snagged 31 boards on the night to the Huskies 43. Of the 31 rebounds nine were offensive, the Beavers were unable to convert on those rebounds only scoring three second chance points.
Jana Swanson led Bemidji State with six rebounds to Theis' 15 for St. Cloud State.
The Beavers will host University of Minnesota, Duluth on Saturday, Dec., 3 at the BSU Gymnasium at 1 p.m., in NSIC regular season action.
