BSU Women’s Basketball struggles to match (RV) Bulldogs

Beavers fall 49-78 to Bulldogs at home

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to (RV) University of Minnesota Duluth 49-78 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action, Saturday afternoon at the BSU Gymnasium. The Bulldogs (6-2, 3-0 NSIC) scored an early basket from tip-off and the Beavers (3-4, 0-3 NSIC) were unable to gain traction.
 
The Beavers scored 11 points in each of the first three quarters shooting 13-for-39 (33.3%) from the field. In the final quarter Bemidji State converted more of its shots scoring 16 points in the last 10 minutes of the game. BSU could not connect from three and only shot 25% (2-for-8) in the first three quarters with one coming from a half-court buzzer beater from Trinity Yoder to end the first half. Bemidji State had more success in the final quarter converting on three of five shots. From the free throw line, the Beavers capitalized on their opportunities only missing three of their 13.   
 
Trinity Yoder led the way for Bemidji State with 16 points, going 5-for-14 from the field, 2-for-4 from three and 4-for-6 from the free throw line. Yoder was able to draw six fouls in the game landing her at the line throughout the game. Freshman Alyssa Hill came off the bench and finished behind Yoder with 14 points. Yoder and Hill were also first and second for assists with three and two, respectively.  
  
In the first half the Beavers out-rebounded the Bulldogs 18-17 with Yoder coming away with five from the first 20 minutes of play. When the final horn sounded UMD grabbed seven more rebounds than BSU, 37-30. Despite being the team leading rebounder in the first half Yoder was unable to corral a missed shot in the second half. Hill finished the night with six rebounds leading the way for the Beavers.
 
The Beavers will be on the road next weekend as they take on Minnesota State University, Mankato on Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a trip to Aberdeen, S.D., the next day as they face Northern State University at 4 p.m.
