Wolves pull away from Beavers in third quarter for 62-48 victory

Bemidji State falls short in NSIC action at Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to Northern State University 62-48, Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers (3-6, 0-5 NSIC) held with the Wolves (7-4, 2-3 NISC) before a third quarter surge powered them to the 14-point victory.
 
Bemidji State and Northern State were neck and neck in the first half with eight lead changes and three tied scores. Going into half the Beavers trailed by just one. Coming out of the half BSU was unable to connect from the field going 0-for-10 but scored six points from the free throw line. The Wolves took advantage of the missed shots and finished the third quarter up 12 points. The lead was too much for the Beavers to overcome in the final quarter falling 48-62.
 
Trinity Yoder scored 15 points on the afternoon to lead the Beavers in scoring. Alyssa Hill followed with 10 points. Erin Barrette was the leading scorer for the team in the first half with six points coming from two three-pointers in the first quarter. Yoder was also setting up scoring chances as well and finished with seven assists. 
   
The Beavers were competitive on the glass with 35 rebounds to the Wolves' 42. Yoder finished the game one rebound shy of a double-double. Sam Pogatchnik was second on team with six, and Jana Swanson rounded out the top three with five. Rachel Koenig and Yoder were able to come away with a block in the action
 
The Beavers return home for their last two games of 2022 as they host University of Mary and Minot State University on Dec. 16 and 17.
