Beavers go into holiday break falling 64-76 to Golden Eagles

Bemidji State falls to Minnesota Crookston on the road

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's basketball team was unable to secure its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win after falling 64-76 to University of Minnesota, Crookston, Saturday afternoon in Crookston, Minn. Sam Pogatchnik led the Beavers (3-7, 0-6 NSIC) in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Golden Eagles (3-8, 2-4 NSIC) started the game hot by scoring 12 points in the first four minutes before the Beavers made their first basket. Trinity Yoder started the offense with a jump shot and BSU climbed back into the game cutting UMC's lead to one with a minute left in the first quarter. Bemidji State couldn't find an answer for Emma Miller of Minnesota Crookston who scored 37 points in the game resulting in a 76-64 victory for the Golden Eagles.
 
Pogatchnik led the Beavers in scoring with her 16 points, Yoder was behind her with 15. Maddie Schires and Alyssa Hill also cracked into double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Setting up the scoring for the Beavers was Pogatchnik as well leading the team with four assists. Erin Barrette was one behind with three on the afternoon.
  
In the first half the Beavers and Golden Eagles both came away with 15 rebounds, but in the second half UMC snagged five more boards than BSU. Pogatchnik and Yoder led the way with seven rebounds for the Beavers. Pogatchnik was the only member of BSU who recorded on block.
 
The Beavers will return to action after the holiday break as they host University of Mary and Minot State University on Dec. 30-31 at the BSU Gymnasium.
