BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Basketball team returns to the court after a 13-day hiatus and welcomes University of Mary and Minot State University for its final games of the 2022 calendar year. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action begins with University of Mary on Friday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m., and is followed by Minot State University Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Series vs Mary
· Mary leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 19-14.
· The Beavers and Marauders last met Feb. 5, 2022, with a 55-53 win by Mary in Bemidji, Minn.
· Mary leads the series 10-7 when playing in Bemidji State.
· BSU and Mary first met Dec. 18, 1971, a 92-87 win by Mary.
The Series vs Minot State
· Minot State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 14-10.
· The Beavers and Minot State last met Feb. 4, 2022, with an 82-54 win by BSU in Bemidji, Minn.
· BSU leads the series 7-5 when playing in Bemidji State.
· BSU and MSU first met Dec. 18, 1988, with a 100-89 win by MSU.
Fast Break Bemidji State
- BSU went into the holiday break defeating University of Minnesota, Crookston 86-75 on Dec. 17 for its second NSIC win of the season.
- The Beavers bench came alive against the Golden Eagles contributing 43 points with John Sutherland leading the team with 22.
- Bemidji State had 34 shots from the free throw line, most on the season, with 28 coming in the second half. BSU made 24 of its shots with Sutherland going 8-for-9 from the line
- The Beavers had their second-best shooting performance of season so far converting on 56% of their shots. In the first half against UMC, BSU shot 18-for-31 (58.1%).
- The big men in Dalton Albrecht and Sutherland are leading the team 174 and 165 points respectively. Sutherland leads the team with 18.3 points per game and Albrecht is right behind him with 15.8 ppg.
- Sutherland is leading the Beavers and is third in the conference 8.2 rebounds per game. Sutherland in his nine games has come away with 74 rebounds.
- Bemidji State climbed up to third in the NSIC in points per game with 80.6 and is 13th in scoring defense allowing 74.4 points per game.
- Kone is leading the Beavers in assists with 35, Brayden Williams is right behind him with 34. The pair rank 13th and 16th in the conference, respectively.
- BSU is now leading the NSIC in field goal percentage with 49.2% but, are last for opponent field goal percentage with 48.1%.
- The Beavers are 15th in turnovers and are 12th in assist to turnover ratio with a 1.10 ratio.
Scouting Mary
- Head Coach Jack Nelson is in his second season with the Marauders (17-21).
- Mary (6-4, 2-4 NSIC) was unsuccessful in their game against Minot State falling 76-82.
- Mary averages 73.8 points per game shooting 44.3% from the field and 36.8% from behind the arc.
- Senior Kam Warrens and junior Zyon Smith lead the Marauders in scoring both with 126 points. Smith put up a season high 22 points in the loss over Minot State.
Scouting Minot State
- Head Coach Matt Murken is in his 11th season with the Beavers (135-140).
- MSU (6-4, 3-3 NSIC) with its change of schedule took on Mary and won 82-76.
- MSU averaged 78.4 points per game shooting 48.5% from the field and 39.9% from behind the arc.
- Redshirt senior Cam'ron Dunfee leads the Beavers in scoring with 152 points averaging 15.2 per game. Dunfee put up 28 in the victory over SCSU making eight threes.
