Beavers put three-game win streak to test against No. 16 Mavericks and Golden Bears

BSU Women’s Soccer celebrates homecoming Friday and Sunday

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's soccer team puts its three-game win streak to the test this weekend and hosts No. 16 Minnesota State University, Mankato and Concordia University-St. Paul Friday, Sept. 16 and Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium in part of Homecoming festivities.
 
The Beavers (3-1-1, 2-0-0 NSIC) begin the weekend's action by hosting the No. 16 Mavericks (4-1-0, 2-0-0 NSIC) Friday at 3 p.m., followed by the Golden Bears (1-3-1, 1-1-0 NSIC) Sunday at 1 p.m. A live stream for each game complete with Beaver Radio Network broadcast can be found, here.
 
Friday's game will feature two of the top teams in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as well as the nation in the Beavers and Mavericks. Ranked No. 16 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top-25 national poll, the Mavericks are tied with the Beavers for the best record in the NSIC with both teams holding a 2-0-0 record in league play. The Mavericks are the league's top scoring team with 14 goals through the team's first five games and are led by the league's top goal scorer in Jenny Vetter who has totaled four goals in five games.
 
The Beavers are led by fifth-year senior Sara Wendt who has totaled five points off two goals and one assist in five games. She is followed by freshman Katrina Barthelt who has two goals for four points while graduate Allyson Smith has a goal and assist and fifth-year senior Erin Becker has also added a goal.
 
Senior Alyssa Stumbaugh leads the Beavers in goal and has played 360 of the team's 450 minutes in net and has totaled 22 saves to rank fifth in the NSIC. She has posted a 1.50 goals against average and .786 save percentage with two shutouts.
 
Senior defender Halle Peterson is coming off a week where she was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week. Peterson anchored a Beavers' defense that held opponents scoreless over the weekend and limited them to just 13 shots, three of which were on goal. She also contributed offensively and assisted on the Beavers' game-winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Minnesota State University, Moorhead while also posting one shot on goal.
