Hill records double-double in 71-55 road loss to Wayne State

Yoder adds game-high 19 points

WAYNE, Neb. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team fell on the road to Wayne State College 71-55 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action, Friday night in Wayne, Neb. Alyssa Hill recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Wildcats. Trinity Yoder posted a game-high 19 points in 34 minutes.
 
The Beavers fall to 5-12 on the season and 2-11 in NSIC play, with the Wildcats improving to 10-7 and 7-7 in the NSIC. BSU shot 18-for-57 (31.6) from the field, 3-for-15 (20.0) for three and 16-for-23 (69.5) from the free throw line, while WSC went 26-for-72 (36.1) from the field, 8-for-23 (34.8) from behind the arc and 11-for-16 (68.8) from the charity stripe. 
    
From the tip it, was all Wayne State. Lauren Zacharias grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Maya Fitzpatrick who nailed a three and ignited a 10-point run for the Wildcats to open the contest. Erin Barrette got the ball rolling for the Beavers with a deep ball with under six minutes to play in the first quarter. Bemidji State was able to cut the lead down to four a couple times in the quarter with free throws from Sam Pogatchnik and a layup from Hill. A made free throw from Wayne State's Kassidy Pingel ended the first quarter scoring with the Wildcats up 23-15. 
 
Starting the second quarter, WSC scored a quick nine points to put them up 32-19 and went up by 21 with under a minute left in the half. Bemidji State in quarter two only made 25-percent of its shots while Wayne State shot above 50-percent to extend its lead even more.
 
A minute passed in the third quarter before the first point was scored on a free throw by WSC that was followed by a jumper from Zacharias. Yoder helped ignite a run for the Beavers that stretched to 6-0, as she accounted for four of the points. Yoder attempted her 10th free throw of the game and her 537th of her career to now lead the Beavers in free throw attempts. The Beavers were able to pull within 14 in the final two minutes of the quarter before WSC closed on a 3-0 run to take a 56-39 lead after three. BSU limited the Wildcats to 10 points in the third and held an 11-10 scoring edge in the quarter.

The Wildcats moved out to their largest lead of 27 in the final quarter near the midway point. Bemidji State had its best shooting performance of the game in the final action at 40-percent. The Beavers went 6-for-15 from the field and Rumer Flatness knocked down the only BSU three pointer in the quarter and the team went 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Isabel Majewski closed the scoring for the Beavers and provided the final margin of 71-55 in favor of the Wildcats. 
    
Yoder led the Beaver offense with 19 points going 6-for-15 from the field and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Yoder had a strong all-around game adding seven assists and six rebounds. Hill scored 13 points and Pogatchnik rounded out the top-three scorers with eight. Yoder accounted for over 60-percent of the team's assist as the Beavers finished with 11 on the night.
    
Hill was the leading rebounder on the court for both teams coming away with 11 for her third double-double of the season. Hill proved to be trouble on the offensive glass snagging seven offensive rebounds. Jana Swanson, Yoder and Pogatchnik all finished the game with six rebounds. The Beavers finished with four blocks, two coming from Brooke Theis and Rachel Koenig, while Pogatchnik swatted one. 
 
Fitzpatrick and Pingel led WSC with 10 points apiece. The Wildcats had even point distribution with 12 players scoring at least a point.
   
The Beavers return to the court tomorrow (Saturday) as they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on Augustana University at 5:30 p.m. Augustana is coming off a 69-60 victory over University of Minnesota, Crookston.
