Three-goal third period sends No. 15/14 St. Cloud State to victory over Beavers

BSU Women’s Hockey falls 5-2 in game one at No. 15/14 St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A flurry of goals by the No. 15/14 St. Cloud State University women's hockey team to start the third period propelled the Huskies to a 5-2 victory over the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team Friday night in St. Cloud.
 
The game kick-started Western Collegiate Hockey Association play with the Huskies (4-1-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) earning three points in the league standings.
 
Bemidji State freshman Hailey Armstrong scored both goals for the Beavers for her first career multi-goal effort while senior Taylor Nelson earned two assists for her second career multi-assist game.
 
Laura Zimmermann got the Huskies on the board first 4:55 into the first period with a power-play goal but Armstrong answered with her first goal of the game 15:11 into the frame to tie the game.
 
St. Cloud State's CC Bowlby then retook the lead with a goal 6:28 into the second period but just 19 seconds later, Armstrong answered to tie the game once again.
 
The Huskies then started the third period with a goal 1:00 into the final frame followed by two more goals over the next 3:16 to surge to the 5-2 victory.
 
Junior goaltender Abbie Thompson stopped 25-of-30 shots in the game but falls to 0-3-1 on the season.
 
Bemidji State falls to 0-4-1 (0-1-0 WCHA) on the season and will close out its series with St. Cloud State tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet again at 3:01 p.m.
