BEMIDJI, Minn. - Junior
Gavin Enright recorded his first career shutout denying University of St. Thomas on all 29 of its shots to backstop the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team to a 2-0 victory and completed the series sweep over the Tommies Saturday night at Sanford Center.
The Beavers earned three Central Collegiate Hockey Association league points with the win and improve to 3-3-0 (2-0-0 CCHA) on the season behind Enright's shutout and two goals from sophomore
Lleyton Roed.
After a scoreless first period, Bemidji State opened the scoring midway through the second period when Roed carved through the Tommies' defenses to score his third goal in his third consecutive game.
Â
The goal would be all the Beavers would need as Enright was sharp in between the pipes turning aside shot after shot by the Tommies. Bemidji State put the icing on the cake late in the third period when Roed scored his fourth goal in three games with an empty-net goal with just 44 seconds remaining.Â
Â
Roed paces the team with six goals in six games and is now second in the CCHAÂ in goals and one of 12 players in Division I to average a goal per game to start the season.
Enright earns his first career shutout and was dialed in from the start turning aside 12 shots by St. Thomas in the first period and then followed with nine saves in the second and eight in the third. Enright credited the team playing in front of him following the game as the Beavers blocked a season-high 25 shots including five from defensemen
Kyle Looft and
Eric Pohlkamp.Â
The Bemidji State power play failed to score a goal for the first time in three games coming up empty on its three opportunities. However, its penalty kill was excellent denying the Tommies a power-play goal on five chances.
Bemidji State now prepares for its first league road trip of the season and will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to take on Lake Superior State University for a two-game series beginning Friday, Nov. 3.
