BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Basketball team opened the 2023-24 portion of the home schedule in style rolling to the 105-62 victory against Northland on Tuesday inside the BSU Gym.
Dalton Albrecht paced the Beavers with another double-double going for 18 points and 10 rebounds. He went 8-12 from the field and added a pair of steals in 23 minutes. John Sutherland tallied 17 points and six rebounds, going 7-9 from the field in 15 minutes. Daxton Dayley recorded the most points as a Beaver with 16 points, making 6-10 from the field and 4-8 from three. Colin Schaefer was 5-9 from the field for his 14 points, while Johnny Tennyson rounded out the five Beavers to score in double figures adding 13 points on 5-7 from the field.
Bemidji State (2-1) went 40-74 (54.1) from the field, 13-37 (35.1) from three and went 12-19 (63.2) at the foul line. The Beavers held Northland to 21-54 (38.9) from the field, 2-16 (12.5) from three and 18-27 (66.7) at the foul line. BSU turned in 12 turnovers to 24 points. The Beavers also held a big advantage on points in the paint (52-28).
BSU opened the game on a 6-0 run with all the points being scored by Sutherland. Bemidji State used a 10-0 run after that to open up a 19-4 advantage. Sutherland added five more points during the run, while Albrecht hit a layup and Dayley a triple.
Over the final few minutes of the half, Bemidji State stretched the lead into the 30's eventually holding the 57-19 lead at the break. The Beavers shot 57.5 percent from the field (23-40) over the first 20 minutes and held Northland (0-2) to just 8-28 (28.5) from the floor.
Midway through the second half, BSU pushed the lead out to their largest of the night of 48 at 84-36 on another long ball by Dayley. John Pecarich and Jobe Juenemann closed the scoring for the Beavers with back-to-back triples to provide the final margin of 105-62.
Bemidji State reached 100 points for the first time since last year on Nov. 17 against Oak Hills Christian when the Beavers claimed the 115-54 victory.
BSU will see Oak Hills Christian again this coming Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the BSU Gym.
