BEMIDJI, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato got the better of the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team in overtime Saturday evening at Sanford Center as the Mavericks salvaged the series split with the Beavers with a 3-2 overtime win.

The Beavers started the game scoring first for the second consecutive night when Armstrong scored a power-play goal 8:53 into the first period.

It was the seventh of the season for Armstrong to lead the team and tie for seventh most in the WCHA and the second most by a league freshman.

The Mavericks didn't wait long to tie the game however, and 5:06 later, Whitney Tuttle scored an even-strength goal.

The teams would head into the first intermission locked in the 1-1 tie and played most of the second period knotted up, but the Mavericks would take their first lead of the series with 3:58 left in the period with a power-play goal from Sydney Langseth.

The Beavers would respond with a power-play goal of their own just 2:48 later when
Khloe Lund one-timed a shot past a screened goaltender to tie the game at two.

The goal was the first of the season for the senior from Thief River Falls, Minn., native and is the first time since Sept. 23, 2022 that BSU scored two power-play goals in a game.

After neither team could score the go-ahead goal in the third period, the game would head into the three-on-three overtime for the second consecutive night but the Mavericks would be on the end of the game winner this time after Jame Nelson scored her third goal of the series 40 seconds into the extra period.

Thompson kept the Beavers in range of the Mavericks stopping 33 shots in the game including 15-of-16 in the second period which heavily favored MSU. However, she earns the loss falling to 0-9-1 on the season.
The Beavers finished 2-for-3 on the power while their penalty kill denied the Mavericks on two of their three chances.

Bemidji State falls to 1-12-1 (1-9-0 WCHA) on the season but earns one point in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings to tie for sixth with Minnesota State.

The Beavers will have another bye week for the Holiday break and will next return to action Dec. 1-2 for a road trip to No. 4 University of Minnesota.
