GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Ludvig Persson posted his third shutout of the season as No. 1 University of North Dakota shutout the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team 5-0 Saturday night in their series finale at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Â
Persson denied all 29 Beaver shots while the Fighting Hawks scored goals in all three periods including three in the third period.
Â
North Dakota (11-2-1) opened the game scoring 4:37 after the opening faceoff when Dane Montgomery scored but clung to the one-goal lead after the first 20 minutes.
Â
The Fighting Hawks then made it 2-0, 5:13 into the second period with a goal from Jackson Blake who scored last night's overtime game-winning goal.
Â
The Beavers fought hard to get within striking distance in the third period, sending forechecker after forechecker looking for their first goal. However, UND took advantage of a pressing group and countered with three goals over the last 5:55 of play to take a commanding five-goal lead.
Â
Senior
Gavin Enright stopped 23-of-25 shots by the Fighting Hawks before they erupted for three goals on the final six shots of the game. He finished with 26 saves in the loss and falls to 4-7-0 on the season.
Â
Bemidji State earned four power-play opportunities in the game but came up empty on all four chances including a 5-on-3 chance late in the first period. Its penalty kill allowed one power-play goal on four penalty kills.
Â
The Beavers are now 5-9-0 on the season.
Â
The Beavers will now look to recoup during a bye week next weekend before returning to Central Collegiate Hockey Association play Dec. 8-9 when they host Lake Superior State University.
