BEMIDJI, Minn. - All four lines scored and 12-of-19 skaters recorded a point as the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team skated past Lake Superior State 7-1 in their Central Collegiate Hockey Association series opener Friday night at Sanford Center.
Â
Bemidji State recorded the most points in a game (20) since the 2019-20 season and tied for the most goals (7) this season.
Â
Fifth-year senior
Carter Jones (2g-1a) and senior
Austin Jouppi (3a) combined for six of the Beavers' 20 points while six Beavers recorded multiple points. Jones, senior
Eric Martin and freshman
Noah Quinn each scored their first goals of the season with Quinn earning his first collegiate goal wearing a green and white sweater.
Â
Senior
Gavin Enright turned aside 12-of-13 shots to earn his sixth win of the season as the Beavers garnered three points in the league standings and improved to 6-9-0 (5-4-0 CCHA).
Â
Martin starting things off for the Beavers after scoring his first goal of the season and first since suffering a season-ending injury midway through last season.
Â
Â
Just 26 seconds later junior
Jere Vaisanen scored his second goal of the season after beating LSSU netminder Ethan Langenegger high blocker on a quick rush play.
Â
Â
It would seem as if the Beavers would carry the two-goal lead into the first intermission but with just 15.4 seconds left in the frame, Jones scored his first of the season to put the Beavers up by three.
Â
Â
Jones then didn't wait long to score his second and found the back of the net for the second time in a game for the first time in his collegiate career 4:49 into the second period.
Â
Â
The Lakers finally stopped the scoring run just 1:11 later when John Herrington scored his fifth of the season but the Beavers would strike again before the frame's end when Quinn scored his first collegiate goal with just 1:44 left.
Â
Â
The Beavers weren't finished and 23 seconds later, junior
Alexander Lundman scored his second goal of the season after forcing a turnover on the forecheck and fired the puck five-hole on new goaltender William Hakansson who started the second period.
Â
Â
Neither team would get much opportunities in the third period with the two teams combining for just five shots in the frame but the Beavers put the icing on the cake with a power-play goal from freshman Liam Engström with 4:18 remaining.
Â
Â
Bemidji State finished the game out-shooting the Lakers 23-13 led by Quinn and fellow freshman
Eric Pohlkamp with four shots each.
Â
BSU finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while its penalty kill held the Lakers power play goal-less on its two chances.
Â
The win was the Beavers' first since Nov. 18 snapping a two-game losing skid while the victory also ended a three-game losing streak against the Lakers.
Â
Bemidji State will now attempt at its second CCHA series sweep of the season when it hosts game two against the Lakers at 6:07 p.m., from Sanford Center.
