Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team fell to Lake Superior State University 5-1 Saturday night in its Central Collegiate Hockey Association series finale at Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The Lakers earn three points in the CCHA standings and five-of-six points in the series.
Â
Bemidji State falls to 3-5-0 (2-2-0 CCHA) on the season while the Lakers improved to 5-3-0 (2-0-0 CCHA).
Â
In similar fashion to the night before, Lake Superior State jumped to a 3-0 lead through the first 18 minutes of the opening period. The Beavers would once again put their mark on the scoreboard just before the frame's end when freshman Liam Engström scored his first collegiate goal just before a Beaver power play ended with 40 seconds to play.
Â
Â
However, unlike game one, the Beaver offense could only muster the one goal despite out-shooting the Lakers 31-22 in the game including a 13-4 advantage in the second period.
Â
The Beavers were stymied by Laker goaltender Ethan Langenegger who turned aside 30-of-31 shots while LSSU extended its lead to 5-1 with two goals in the third period including an empty-net goal with 8:22 to play.
Â
Senior
Gavin Enright started the game and played 15:49 allowing three goals on four shots before freshman
Raythan Robbins can in to make his first appearance for the green and white. He played the remaining 42:37 and stopped 16-of-17 shots in his first collegiate appearance.
Â
Bemidji State will now look to return home and rebound by hosting Michigan Technological University at Sanford Center next weekend. The Beavers will host the Huskies for a two-game CCHA series beginning Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:07 p.m., and concluding Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
Â
Bemidji State will honor Native American Heritage Month by hosting Native American Heritage Night in game one while hosting Skate with the Beavers following game two.
