BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team scored three power-play goals in the first period and its penalty kill held Bowling Green State University goal-less on four chances to power the Beavers to a 5-2 victory Friday night at Sanford Center.

The Beavers earned three Central Collegiate Hockey Association points in the victory to finish with six league points on the weekend and leap-frog into first place in the CCHA standings heading into the second half of the season.

Sophomores
Kirklan Irey and
Lleyton Roed each posted a goal and two assists to lead the Beavers to victory. Nine different Beavers recorded a point with sophomore
Vince Corcoran scoring his first collegiate goal and added an assist and junior
Tony Follmer recording his first collegiate point with an assist.

The Beavers opened the scoring just 2:19 into the game when sophomore
Lleyton Roed sniped the puck from the left circle and past BGSU goaltender Cole Moore for his team-leading ninth goal while on the Beavers' first power play of the game.

Just 3:45 later the Beavers earned another power play and sophomore
Vince Corcoran took the opportunity to score his first collegiate goal with a wrist shot from the blueline.

The Beavers would score with the man advantage again before the period's end and with 3:50 left before the first intermission, Junior
Alexander Lundman scored his third goal of the season to send the Beavers into the first intermission with a three-goal lead.

Bowling Green stopped the Beavers' scoring run in the second period with an even-strength goal 7:25 into the frame but the Beavers retook their three-goal lead at the 15:18 mark when sophomore

Bemidji State scored its fifth goal of the game halfway through the third period after
Adam Flammang tipped a nice pace from
Jakub Lewandowski into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

The Falcons would add a late goal with 4:29 left in the game but it was too little too late as the Beavers earned the 5-2 victory and capped-off a six-point weekend.

Bemidji State dominated play in its offensive zone all weekend and out-shot Bowling Green 40-18 Friday night and 86-37 on the weekend.

The Beavers finished the game going 3-for-9 while on the power play scoring all three power-play goals in the first period. The Beavers' defense held the Falcons goal-less on their four power-play chances.

Junior goaltender
Mattias Sholl earned his third victory of the season and improved to 3-2-0 after stopping 16-of-18 shots.

The Beavers are now 8-10-0 (7-5-0 CCHA) and will have the next 14 days off before returning to action Friday, Dec. 29 for a home-and-home series against non-conference opponent St. Cloud State University.
