Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 14 Huskies use fast start to derail Beavers Friday night

BSU Men’s Hockey falls 6-1 in series opener to No. 14 St. Cloud State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – No. 14 St. Cloud State scored three-unanswered goals in the first period Friday night at Sanford Center to down the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team 6-1 in their non-conference series opener.

Bemidji State's Jere Vaisanen scored a short-handed goal 5:18 into the second period to put the Beavers on the board and pull within two of the Huskies (10-5-2) but three more consecutive goals by SCSU staved off any chance of a BSU comeback.

Vaisanen's short-handed marker was the first of his career and the first short-handed goal for the Beavers since Feb. 25, 2023.

Roed earned the primary assist on the play for his third-straight game recording a point and has five points (1g-4a) over the three-game point streak and 11 points (2g-9a) over the 10 games.

The Beavers' penalty kill unit was 4-for-5 in the game allowing just one power-play goal in the second period while their own power play unit went 0-for-2 in the game.

Bemidji State will attempt to salvage the series split Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn., where the Beavers haven't won since Dec. 3, 2011. Puck drop for game two between BSU and St. Cloud State is slated for 4 p.m., to help ring in the new year.
