PLYMOUTH, Mich. – For the first time in Bemidji State University Men's Hockey history, a Beaver will wear the stars and stripes at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship. Freshman defenseman
Eric Pohlkamp is one of 25 athletes selected to represent the United States at the premier under-20 hockey tournament announced by the team Saturday afternoon.

After three days at training camp in Plymouth, Mich., Pohlkamp, a native of Brainerd, Minn., was one of eight defensemen selected to represent the United State.

The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, Dec. 26-Jan. 5 with USA facing Norway Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. CT for its tournament opening matchup. USA will compete for its seventh medal over the past nine tournaments including earning bronze in the 2023 event.

Through 16 games in his first collegiate season, Pohlkamp is second among Beaver defensemen with nine points off four goals and five assists. He leads the team with 67 shots on goal, fourth most in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, and leads the league averaging 4.19 shots per game. Two of his goals have come while on the power play and has blocked 22 shots defensively.
