WINONA, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team ran into a tough matchup Friday night as Winona State claimed the 7-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.
In doubles, Blanca Lopez-Oro/Nicoleta Anestiadi fought hard at the top-flight winning three games before falling by a score of 6-3. Isabela Nelson/Laura Burger competed at the No. 2 spot, while Lexi Leitner/Lily Jones competed at No. 3 with both falling by the same scores of 6-1. That gave Winona State (2-0, 2-0 NSIC) the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Leitner won three games in her match at No. 6 before falling, 6-3, 6-0. Jones won a game in each set at No. 5 before dropping the 6-1, 6-1 decision. The rest of the matches the Beavers (1-6, 0-2 NSIC) claimed a game in each. Lopez-Oro at the top-flight lost, 6-0, 6-1. Anestiadi playing at the No. 2 spot for the second straight match lost, 6-0, 6-1. Burger played at No. 3 and fell, 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the singles matches, Nelson fell at No. 4 by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Bemidji State will turn right back around and face Upper Iowa in another NSIC match tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 1 p.m. The match will be played in Winona.
