Bemidji State makes push during final round before coming in eighth at SMSU Spring Challenge

Albrecht places 23rd to lead the Beavers

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Bemidji State University Women's Golf team started the day early on Friday and were close to passing a couple of teams before placing eighth at the SMSU Spring Challenge at the Wigwam Golf Course-Blue. The Beavers played four straight rounds of golf that spanned over two different tournaments this week.

Bemidji State posted rounds of 369-366 for a 735 to come in eighth. Earlier in the day, the Beavers passed Minnesota Crookston for a bit and were getting closer to Minot State, before both teams were able to just push ahead. Minnesota Crookston carded a 730 to place seventh and Minot State came in sixth with a 709. Wayne State kept their top-spot on the field winning the tournament by 10-strokes with a 636, holding off a charging Ashland team that made the move from fourth to second. Ashland's Grace Grant won the individual title by a stroke posting a 153.

Mollie Albrecht led the way for the Beavers posting rounds of 83-87 for a 170 to finish 23rd. Albrecht collected seven pars on Friday, with four coming on a 6-over back nine that concluded with pars on holes 17 and 18.

Maddy Sawyer had the best round of the day for Bemidji State carding an 86, to go along with her opening round 92 for a 178 to tie for 33rd. Sawyer sunk six pars on the day, three each on the front and back nine.

Savannah Byfuglien came away with rounds of 100-96 for a 196 to tie for 46th. Byfuglien sunk four pars on the day with two each on the front and back nine.

Vaida Behnke and Isabella Depew each tied for 48th with scores of 197. Behnke carded rounds of 100-97 as she finished the tournament with four pars on Friday, with three coming on the front nine. Depew carded rounds of 94-103.

Following the two tournaments in Arizona, Bemidji State will now be off until Apr. 3-4 when they will travel to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Jimmie Spring Swing.
