Golden Bears complete sweep of Beavers with 9-0 and 11-4 victories Monday

BSU Baseball falls in first NSIC series of 2023

MAUSTON, Wis. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team fell in both games of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series-ending doubleheader Monday afternoon against Concordia University-St. Paul at the Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston, Wis. The Beavers (1-17, 0-3 NSIC) fell in game one 9-0 in seven innings then fell 11-4 in game two to the Golden Bears (7-9, 3-0 NSIC).
 
The Beavers' bats struggled in game one of the day totaling just three hits off CSP pitcher Jonah Lewis who pitched the complete game shutout. James Wirt, Ty Karger and Jackson Schaffer all recorded singles for the Beavers while Zach Listiak and Schaffer each drew walks.
 
Logan Barrick pitched 5.1 innings and earned his first loss of the season (1-1) after allowing seven runs, six earned, off 10 hits, two walks and struck out three. He was replaced in the sixth inning by AJ Gengler who pitched 0.2 innings and allowed two runs, 0 earned, off one hit and walked two.
 
Bemidji State scored four runs off of five hits in game two but the Golden Bears exploded for 11 runs off 12 hits to run away with and 11-4 victory.
 
After a scoreless first and second inning for the Beavers, they strung together four hits as well as reaching base three times to put up four runs in the top of the third and take their first lead of the series at 4-2. Riley Czech and Jack Munson each doubled in the inning while Listiak and Schaffer hit back-to-back singles for the Beavers. Isaiah Biehn drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the fourth Beavers run.
 
However, the Golden Bears couldn't be stopped offensively and scored runs in every inning except the first. After scoring two runs in the second, CSP scored a run in the third, two in the fourth and fifth, one more in the sixth, two in the seventh and ended the game with a run in the eighth.
 
Wirt, Munson, Listiak and Biehn each recorded RBI in the game while the rest of the Beavers went five-for-29 at the plate and drew five walks.
 
Riley Bersaw pitched 3.1 innings and earned the loss (0-3) after allowing five runs off four hits, walked four while striking out a career-high five batters. Christian Lindow pitched 1.2 innings while Christian Turner, Jesse Johnson and Cam McRoberts all pitched 1.0 inning.
 
Bemidji State will get right back on the road and travel to Fayette, Iowa to continue NSIC play at Upper Iowa University tomorrow. The Beavers and Peacocks will play a single doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
