LIBERTY, Mo. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team got off to a hot start in the final game at William Jewell College Sunday afternoon when junior
Jack Munson hit a two-run home run in the first inning. However, the Cardinals rallied to score 17 of the next 18 runs in the game to earn the four-game sweep of the Beavers by a score of 17-3 in seven innings.
Munson finished his day at the plate 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI while sophomore
Zach Moritz paced the Beavers with a career-high three hits, all singles, and scored a run when junior
Zach Listiak hit an RBI single in the top of the third for the Beavers' final run of the game.
Moritz, Munson and
Ty Karger each recorded multiple hits in the game while
Hunter Daymond and Listiak each added one to finish the Beavers' team total with nine hits.
The Beavers surrendered 16 hits to the Cardinals including six extra-base hits. Sophomore
Isaiah Biehn started the game on the mound for Bemidji State and pitched 2.2 innings and gave up eight runs off eight hits and struck out a career-high five batters to earn his first loss of the season.
Beau Barry came into pitch in relief and gave up two earned runs off four hits in 1.2 innings while
Ethan Lung, Chrisitan Turner and
AJ Gengler pitched the final three innings.
Bemidji State falls to 0-8 in its first two weekends of the season and will now hop back onto the bus and travel West to Tucson Ariz., to take part in the Tucson Invitational Games. The Beavers will play seven games over five days beginning Tuesday, Mar. 7 with a non-conference game with Southwest Minnesota State University.
