Tony Follmer each scored their first collegiate goals Friday night as the Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team defeated Ferris State University 4-1 in their Central Collegiate Hockey Association series opener.

The Beavers (9-12-0, 8-5-0 CCHA) garnered three more points in the league standings and remain atop the league standings with 25 points.

Sophomore
Lleyton Roed led the Beavers with two assists in the game after he assisted on the first two goals while seven Beavers recorded a point. Junior
Mattias Sholl got back to his winning ways and earned his fourth victory of the season by turning aside 25-of-26 Bulldog shots.

Bemidji State scored the crucial first goal of the game 12:14 after the opening puck drop when freshman
Rhys Chiddenton corralled a loose rebound in front of the net to score his first collegiate goal.

Sophomore
Kirklan Irey then put the Beavers up by two 1:43 later after Roed forced a turnover behind the Bulldog net while on the forecheck and fed a wide-open Irey who scored his fourth goal of the season.

Bemidji State took the two-goal lead into the first intermission but 2:36 into the second period, junior
Donte Lawson scored his first career goal after a pass off the pad play set up by sophomore
Patrik Satosaari.

Ferris State stopped the Beavers scoring run seven minutes later with a goal by Antonio Venuto that deflected off traffic in front of Sholl, but the two-goal lead was enough for BSU as Sholl held the Bulldogs to just the one goal.

Junior
Tony Follmer iced the game late in the third period with an empty-net goal with 2:27 to play to also score his first collegiate goal from 180 feet away.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Beavers while the Bulldogs' losing streak extends to seven games. The Beavers have now won its last three CCHA games and have won four of the last five.

Ferris State out-shot the Beavers 26-25 in the game but were fueled by a perfect 4-for-4 penalty kill.

Bemidji State will attempt for its second consecutive CCHA series sweep tomorrow night when the two teams meet again for game two at 5:07 p.m. CT. BSU has not swept back-to-back league series since its days in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association during the 2019-20 season (Bowling Green-Northern Michigan).
