Beavers shutout Wolves on the road

A goal from Davey grabs a 1-0 win for the Beavers in Aberdeen, S.D.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Bemidji State University soccer took down the Northern State University Wolves, 1-0, Friday evening in Aberdeen, S.D. A goal from Madeline Davey in the 55th minute was enough to propel the Green & White ahead and claim the win.

The Beavers and Wolves remained scoreless for the first 45 minutes of the matchup. In the first half, the Beavers held the Wolves to two shots on goal, the only shots on goal the Wolves would get in the game, giving BSU netminder Sonia Alfieri two saves on the evening. The Beavers would find six shots being saved by NSU's Alexus Townsend in the first.

BSU started the second half strong with a shot on goal from Katrina Barthelt three minutes in. This was followed by Maddie Davey's goal at the 55:01 mark, assisted by Barthelt. Last season against the Wolves, the Beavers earned a single goal, and 1-0 shoutout win, from the same duo with Barthelt grabbing the goal and Davey the assist. Davey's goal remained the solo tally on the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Davey led the Beavers in shots with five and three shots on NSU's goal. She marked her season high in shots (5), shots on goal (3) and minutes (56). She also marked her second goal of the season, her first coming during a 5-1 win over Upper Iowa University on Sep. 15.

Barthelt's assist this evening grabbed her eighth-straight game with at least one point. Through this streak, she has tallied seven goals and two assists for 16 total points. With her seven goals and 35 shots, Barthelt has tallied a .200 shooting percentage and one game winning goal.

In the net for the Beavers, Sonia Alfieri marked her fifth 1.000 save percentage game. She moves to 5-1-0 this season and has tallied three shutouts. This season, Alfieri has allowed just three goals with 16 saves for a save percentage of 84.2%.
