BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team and Lindenwood University skated to a 3-3 tie Saturday afternoon in their non-conference series finale at Sanford Center.
Raeley Carney,
Riley Reeves and
Isa Goettl each scored for the Beavers (1-6-1).
Â
Freshman
Lauren Mooney earned her first collegiate start in between the pipes for the Beavers and stopped 21-of-24 shots to help the Beavers earn the tie.
Â
Junior
Raeley Carney opened the scoring for BSU just 5:57 into the opening period and scored her first goal of the season.
Â
Â
However, the Lions (0-5-1) would score twice before the first intermission to take a 2-1 lead. Hannah Dods opened the Lions' scoring with her first goal 8:27 into the first frame. Morgan Neitzke followed with her first of the year as well with just 2:42 to play in the first period.
Â
Down 2-1 at the start of the second, sophomore
Riley Reeves received a centering pass from Goettl and buried the tying goal with just 5:32 left in the middle frame.
Â
Â
The game remained tied 2-2 after the second period but 3:56 into the third, Goettl scored her third goal of the season and earned her second point of the night with an unassisted marker.
Â
Â
The Beavers' lead didn't last long as 4:18 later, Molly Henderson tied the game again with her second goal of the season.
Â
The two teams would head to the three-on-three overtime where Bemidji State out-paced Lindenwood totaling five shots to just one for the Lions. However, LU's Madison Bowtell was tracking the puck well and turned aside all five shots to collect the tie.
Â
Bemidji State's penalty kill got back on track and denied the Lions power play on all three of their chances during the game while BSU's power play came up empty on its lone chance.
Â
The Beavers will have a short week to prepare to resume Western Collegiate hockey Association play. Bemidji State hits the road and travels to Madison, Wis., to face University of Wisconsin for a two-game series starting Thursday, Oct. 24.
