BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Hockey freshman goaltender
Kaitlin Groess made 33 saves but No. 1 University of Wisconsin earned a 4-0 victory over the Beavers in game one of their Western Collegiate hockey Association series Friday night at LaBahn Arena.
Â
Groess turned aside the second most shots she faced in her collegiate career and held the top-ranked Badgers to just two goals through 59 minutes of play. However, the Badgers netted two goals within the final minute to extend the score to 4-0 and claim their ninth victory of the season.
Â
Wisconsin opened the scoring 9:16 into the first period when Laila Edwards scored a power-play goal. The Badgers wouldn't score their second until 6:17 of the second period with a goal from Marianne Picard. The Badgers held onto the two-goal lead for most of the third period and it wasn't until Caroline Harvey and Claire Enright each scored within the final minute to put the Badgers up by four.
Â
The Beavers now prepare for game two tomorrow with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
