Beavers set for three-match week
BSU travels to UMC Wednesday, hosts NSU and MSUM Friday and Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Beaver Volleyball prepares for three matches this week, one on the road at University of Minnesota Crookston Wednesday and two at home against No. 21 Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Bemidji State is 7-12 this season after two wins last weekend. The Beavers won the "Beaver Battle" against Minot State University 3-1 and followed the same format the following day at University of Mary. These two wins gave the Beavers their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wins of the season after a tough first half and broke a nine-game losing streak.

The Beavers and Golden Eagles met earlier this season in Bemidji when the Golden Eagles grabbed the 3-1 lead on Oct. 17. In the last 10 matchups, BSU and UMC have split with each program grabbing five wins a piece. On the road, the series looks similar with BSU going 14-14 in Crookston, Minn. Wednesday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Lysaker Gymnasium. UMC holds 11th in the conference with a 3-8 NSIC record and 6-13 overall.

On Friday the Beavers host the Wolves at 6 p.m. With a 33-44 series, the Beavers are on an 18-game losing streak against the Wolves which began Sep. 10, 2010 at a neutral-site game in Moorhead, Minn. BSU and NSU have not met yet this season but in 2023 the Beavers were able to force the Wolves to a four-set game, falling 1-3 in the end. Northern State is fifth in the NSIC and 21st nationally with a 15-5 overall record and 7-5 in the conference.

Rounding out the weekend on Saturday at 4 p.m., the Beavers host the MSUM Dragons. The two teams met in Moorhead in early October when the Dragons grabbed the 3-0 sweep. Historically, the series began in 1969 with 138 matches played since then. MSU leads the series with a record of 80-57-1, but BSU has the home advantage going 35-33 in Bemidji. MSUM sits just one spot above BSU in the NSIC with a 8-12 overall record and 3-9 in the conference.

Additionally, BSU Athletics has partnered with Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union to match donations made to the NSIC Volleyball Rally for the Ulmer Family Fundraiser to support the Ulmer family to help cover expenses from the passing of Beaver Volleyball head coach Kevin Ulmer earlier this season.

Representatives from Affinity Plus will be at the Bemidji State Volleyball matches this weekend and will match donations made to the fundraiser during November 1-2, up to $2500. The NSIC Volleyball Rally for the Ulmer Family Fundraiser can be found here.

Following this weekend's matches, the Beavers head south to take on the Winona State University Warriors and No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs. BSU will be back at home on Nov. 15 and 16 to close out the season against Minnesota State University Mankato and No. 9 Concordia University, St. Paul for Parent's Night and Senior Night, respectively.
